BEAVERS DROP SERIES TO BEAR CUBS

The American River College dropped the first two games of the series with Santa Rosa JC in close fashion.  The Beavers fell 7-5 at home on Tuesday and 4-1 in Santa Rosa on Thursday.  In Tuesday’s game the Bear Cubs threatened to run away with the game early as starting pitcher Connor Timmins (East Nicolaus) struggled with his command and allowed 4 runs.  He settled down to go 6 innings but did allow a solo home run in the 5th and a pair of runs in the 6th.  Freshman lefty Josh Heinkel (Inderkum) and closer Christian Lucero (River City) finished the last three innings giving the Beavers a chance.  ARC did put the tying runs on base in the 8th and 9th but were not able to get the big hit needed to tie the game.

On Thursday sophomore right-hander Tyler Quintanilla (Summit Shasta) pitched really well through 7, matching Santa Rosa’s starter in allowing just one run but in the 8th, a one out error by 2B Alejandro Belo followed by a double chased Quintanilla from the game.  After an intentional walk to set up a possible double play the Beavers went to closer Christian Lucero but he was burned by a 1-2 ground ball through the right side for a 2 run single to put Santa Rosa up 3-1.  Santa Rosa got another hit to drive in the 4th run which led to the final score being 4-1.  The Beavers couldn’t handle Santa Rosa’s starting pitcher as he threw a complete game with 10 strikeouts and no walks while allowing just 4 hits.

The teams will finish the series on Saturday at Beaver Field at 1:00 p.m.
