Women’s Tennis Earns Fifth Match Sweep, Cruises Past Cerritos

The Riverside City College women's team rebounded with ease on Friday afternoon by handing Cerritos a 9-0 defeat. The Tigers earned to victories via forfeit, but the remainder if the wins were in dominant fashion.

The closest matchup of the day was at the number five singles position. Freshman Alex Weatherly reigned supreme in the first set, 6-2, but stumbled in a close 6-7 second set. She rebounded and earned an ease 10-1 win in the final set.

Sophomore southpaw Torrey Mateljan acted as the top singles player for the first time this season and hauled in a two-set win at 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Keeley Arendt was bumped up a position to number three and cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 crowning.

Sophomore Hannah Stevenson worked a 6-1, 6-2 victory as the number four, while freshman Monica Madrid dominant the fourth position at 6-1, 6-1.

Sophomore Maxelle Bernie earned the day off in singles play, but teamed up with Mateljan to make up the top doubles duo and jaunted to a smooth 8-0 win. Sophomore Miranda Cardenas and Arendt worked an 8-4 win as the number two doubles team.

Riverside (10-1, 4-1 OEC) will continue action on Tuesday, March 10 on the road against Fullerton at 2 p.m.
