Baseball Takes Two From Irvine Valley

The MSJC baseball team swept Irvine Valley in a pair of games this week as they defeated the Lasers 7-6 at home on Tuesday and won on the road 14-3 Thursday.

Tuesday a strong starting pitching performance from Chris Scovel allowed the Eagles to build a lead of 7-1, before having to hold on in the ninth for the 7-6 win.  Scovel threw 8 plus innings allowing just two earned runs and striking out 6 as he improved to 2-0 on the year.  Trysten Eddy recorded the final out of the game to earn his first save.  Will Potter had a big game at the plate as he drove in four runs on two hits, he also drew a walk.  Christian Smith had three hits on the day including a pair of triples.  Robert Jacobsen and Josh McAninch both added an RBI a piece.

Thursday a huge fourth inning sparked MSJC as they scored 7 times in the inning to win 14-3.  Garrett Teunissen and Kyle Serna both homered in the top of the fourth for the Eagles, in the sixth MSJC tacked on four more runs and capped off the day with three more in the 9th.  Teunissen also had a double in the game as he drove in two runs on the day, Potter once again had a big day at the plate as he went 5 for 6 with three more RBIs.  McAninch, Serna, and Nico Reyes all had two RBIs.  Staring pitcher Derek Ryan got his second win of the year as he went 8 innings giving up just 2 earned runs on 6 hits.

MSJC is now 6-1 on the year and will return to action Saturday when they travel to Compton for a 1 pm game.
