Cuesta Nine Comes Back to Take Down Pierce, 10-7

Cuesta Baseball snapped a two-game skid with a come from behind victory over Western State Conference foe Pierce, 10-7.  The visiting Brahmas struck first and built a three-run lead in their first three turns at the plate, but the Cougars tied the game in the 3rd inning with a pair of singles and a 2-RBI Triple from Third Baseman Zack Tallerman.  Cuesta added seven more runs over the next four innings and withstood four unearned runs from the Brahmas to take the first game of this week's three-game series.

Cuesta's top of the order did most of the damage on offense on the day.  Leadoff Hitter Ryan Fenn (pict) went 3-for-4, including a Double and Triple.  He also scored twice and drove in a run. Two batters later, Designated Hitter Kirk Woolf (pict) also went 3-for-4, including a Double, while both scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs.  On the mound, Righthander Ben Broughton entered the contest in the 4th inning, just before the Cougars took their first lead, and went the rest of the way to earn the win.  Broughton did not allow an earned run over his six innings of work and struckout five Brahmas.

Cuesta improved to 9-11 on the season and 5-2 in Western State Conference play.  The Cougars series against the Brahmas continues in Woodland Hills on Thursday (2 PM) and wraps up back in SLO on Saturday (1 PM)
