SDMC sweeps Rio Hondo 2-0, with best of 5 match wins, (3-2, 4-1)

El Camino sweeps SDMC 2-0, with best of 5 match wins, (1-4, 2-3)

Sunny, 68 degrees, Windy, 13-17 MPH, several tents were blowing away. Ball Control will play a huge factor in the outcome of the matches.

 
v. Rio Hondo: Mesa wins (3-2)

-          Mesa did earn a hard-fought victory against Rio Hondo (3-2) in week one to split the day (1-1). A clutch third set by Tori Dahlberg and Robin Brooks, Mesa's fifth team, featured an early momentum building 7 point run that included four aces by Brooks and 3 well executed shots by Dahlberg. This opened the door for either Mesa's third or fourth team to earn the decisive third match.

 

-          After falling behind early in the first set, Olivia Tomlin and Sarah Connell, found a way to push a 17-4 stretch, closing out on a 10-1 run. This momentum carried into the second set and Mesa's second team steamrolled Rio Hondo never surrendering the lead.

 

-          Heather Steele and Quinn Franks sealed the victory for Mesa with an impressive third set highlighted by an 8 point run featuring several aces by Steele, while assisting on Franks' kills.

 

-          Mesa two loses came from the first and third team. Mesa's 1's did not display their high-level execution versus rio hondo. Errors were prominent in the inclement weather. The third team battled to even the match 1-1, but struggled in set 3 as Rio Hondo rolled for their second victory.

 
v. El Camino: EC wins (4-1)

-          SDMC battled in tough first week match-up against El Camino College and Rio Hondo College. El Camino dismantled Mesa in a 4-1 victory with Kat Wright and Flavia Virgili, Mesa's first Team, winning the lone match in comeback fashion after losing set one. Wright and Virgili capitalized off their opponent's errors and walked in a 15-8 third set victory.
