Football: Rebounds with Dominate Road Win

Long Beach, Calif. - The Golden West College football team responded big time following their loss last week in dominating Long Beach City College 41-17 Saturday night.

The Rustlers jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead midway through the first quarter and never looked back till the clock ran out. Running back Sam Lybeer got Golden West on the board in their opening drive with a four yard touchdown run and then quarterback Ui Ale followed up with a one yard TD run to put the Rustlers up 14-0.

The defense shut down the Vikings offense in the first half as Justin Hintze picked off a Long Beach pass and took it to the house to extend the lead to 21-0. Jake Cipres nailed a 20-yard field goal in the second quarter for the Rustlers to take a 24-7 halftime lead.

Ale would throw his lone touchdown pass in the third quarter connecting on a 13-yard pass to Nate Jimenez to open a 31-10 lead. To cap things off in the third quarter Ja'Sean Pete would add a one yard TD run following Akili Hubbard's 38-yard interception return to the one yard line.

Running back Kross Antonnachi had his best game of the season rushing for 123 yards on 15 attempts for an impressive 8.2yds per touch.

The defense returned to form in this one as it surrendered 41 yards in the first half, and only 242 total yards of offense in four quarters of play. The secondary of Hintze, Hubbard, and Prince Ford each accounted for an interception and the front seven recorded two sacks with six tackles for a loss.

Golden West will be on a bye next week before hosting Southwestern to start National Southern League play on Oct. 15 with a 12pm kickoff in Huntington Beach.
