Cats claw the Hawks in the blazing heat

The Saddleback women's soccer team opened the Mt. San Antonio College Nike/Azteca Soccer Classic with a 3-0 win over Cosumnes River College on Friday in Walnut, California.  The Bobcats dominated the Hawks in 98-degree heat.

Saddleback's game on Friday was moved back an hour in order to avoid triple digit temperatures.  It didn't help much as the Bobcats generated their own heat, cooking up a second straight shutout to start the season.

Saddleback scored twice in a six minute span to take a 2-0 lead heading into the locker room at the intermission.  Christina Santoyo netter the first goal of her collegiate career when she blasted home a pass from Lizbeth De Loera into the back of the net in the 23rd minute.  Six minutes later the Bobcats were back in business when Zoe Chung fed Alexa Livingstone for the first goal of her collegiate career.  Saddleback held a 16-2 advantage in total shots in the half.

Saddleback held the Hawks in check throughout, allowing just four shots the entire game.  The Bobcats put the game out of reach in the 81st minute when Livingstone netted her second of the night off a pass from Alyssa Mendoza for a 3-0 lead.

Jamie-Lynne Clark started the game in goal and played 80 minutes before giving way to Olivia Wynn.  Clark steered aside four balls in picking up her second win of the season.

Saddleback will play again in the tournament on Sunday morning at 8:00 AM against Lake Tahoe College.
