SHASTA SWEPT BY BUTTE IN GVC SERIES

OROVILLE, Calif. – Shasta College's baseball team lost all three games of its opening Golden Valley Conference series of the 2023 season to host Butte College, falling 8-3, 8-6 and 11-3.

Butte 8, Shasta 3
The Knights struck in the first inning on Jude Marquez's RBI groundout but didn't get on the board again until a two-run ninth inning. Shea Bowen was 2 for 3 with a double and a run, Hayes Edens was 12 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Keanu Mizuta had an RBI double and Drew Reynolds had a double and scored a run. Alex Alvarez was the losing pitcher, finishing with four strikeouts and four walks while allowing five earned runs on seven hits in five innings. Blayde Roblin allowed one run on four hits in three innings of relief.

Butte 8, Shasta 6
A Stephen Nelson RBI double followed by a Edens' RBI single in the eighth cut the Roadrunners' lead to two but the Knights couldn't get closer. Bowen was 2 for 5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs, Edens was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Marquez had two RBIs, Mizuta and Nelson each had a hit and scored a run and Joaquin Medina had a double and scored a run. Cade Jacobson took the loss on the hill for the Knights. He allowed six runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings while walking three. Jeremy Carroll-Schneider struck out six and walked four while allowing two unearned runs on no hits in 3.1 innings of relief.

Butte 11, Shasta 3
Six Knight pitchers surrendered 16 hits in the game with Peyton Russell taking the loss on the mound. He gave up four runs on five hits in 1.2 innings. A.J. Davies had the lone multi-hit game for the Knights, going 2 for 3 with a solo home run and a double. Edens hit a solo home run and Nelson had a single and scored a run.

Shasta (0-3 GVC, 8-10) hosts Feather River College in a three game GVC series Friday and Saturday.
