SHASTA BEATS AMERICAN RIVER 12-6 FOR FIRST WIN

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College baseball team beat American River 12-6 Thursday for its first win of the year.

The Knights followed it up with an 8-0 loss to No. 4 Sierra College on Friday and lost their home opener to American River 10-1 on Saturday.

Payton Jeffries had four hits across the three games, going 4-for-11 while sophomore Kolby Button was the winning pitcher for the Knights' first victory.

The Knights scored four runs across each of the first two innings, highlighted on RBI singles from Justin Purdom, who finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Jaden Gorge was 2-for-3 with three runs, Jeffries was 2-for-3 with a run and Cody Emmons was 2-for-3. Josh Taylor scored twice and Mason Wood was 1-for-4 with two walks, an RBI and three runs. Andrew Durrer was scored twice and drove in a run. Button got the win on the hill for Shasta, going 4.1 innings and allowing six runs – five earned – on seven hits. Zac Billingsley threw 3.2 scoreless innings of relief and Billy Plummer threw a perfect ninth inning of relief.

The Knights managed four hits in the game, two from Jeffries and one each from Mikey Perrine and Emmons. Jordan Akins surrendered one earned run on four hits and struck out six and walked two to take the loss. Wyatt Haydon allowed four earned runs in 1.2 innings of relief.

American River 10, Shasta 1
Purdom's RBI groundout in the first inning was the lone run for the Knights in their home opener. Wood was 2-for-3 with a double and Nick Horsley had the only other hit for Shasta. Cameron Falcon gave up six earned runs on 10 hits with one strikeout and one walk in 6.2 innings. Brady Munson fanned one batter in one hitless inning of relief.
