Citrus College let its bats fly Friday afternoon, grabbing a 10-6 victory over San Bernardino Valley College.

The Owls improve to 2-5 overall, while the Wolverines drop to 0-5.

Patty Rodriguez had a stellar game at the plate for the Owls, going 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Alexis Cordero (3-for-3, two runs) and Layla Prieto (3-for-4, one run, two RBIs) also had three hits in the game as the Owls posted 13 hits in the win.

SBVC got a solid start with three runs in the top of the first, but Citrus responded right away. With one runner on, Rodriguez drilled a homer to center to cut the deficit to one run. Cordero followed with a ground-rule double and Prieto traded spots with her with a double of her own. A throwing error then scored Prieto to put the Owls in front, 4-3.

Citrus tacked on another run in the second as Rodriguez knocked an RBI base hit through the left side to score Erica Pineda from second.

The Owls added three more runs in the fourth and another two in the fifth, including another home run from Isabella Ramirez, to threaten putting the mercy rule into play, but the Wolverines got the third out in the fifth before the home team could get an eight-run lead.

SBVC tried to rally in the sixth and plated three runs, but that was all Citrus would allow as the Owls took secured the 10-6 victory.

Citrus remains at home as Golden West comes to town on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
