Mounties handle L.A. Valley, 69-7, in non-conference action

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Football team opened the 2022 season with a bang, as they easily handled visiting L.A. Valley College, 69-7, in a non-conference game on Saturday (Sept. 3) at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

It was nearly a perfect game for the Mounties as they had 464 total yards of offense and the defense allowed just 98 yards by the Monarchs.

Sophomore running back Reaven Tribune led the Mounties on the ground with 64 yards rushing on five carries and two touchdowns. Through the air, Mt. SAC was led by sophomore quarterback Ike Udengwu III with 115 yards (12 for 20, 1 Int.) and two touchdowns.

Freshman quarterback Sean Jastrab (4 for 6, 63 yards) also had two passing TDs.

The Mounties (1-0) saw eight running backs and nine receivers get in the game for the first win of the season.

The leading receiver was freshman Kevion Sophus with 65 yards (5 receptions), along with freshman Cade Cadam (5 catches, 38 Yds.) and two touchdowns.

The Mounties opened the first quarter with a long 68-yard drive, culminating with a 4-yard touchdown run by Tribune and it was all Mt. SAC after that in the first half, as they built up a 41-0 lead.

Highlighting the defense in the first half was an 8-yard interception return for a touchdown by sophomore defensive back Anthony Hebert, to give the Mounties a 17-0 lead in the first quarter.

In the third quarter, Jastrab connected for two TD passes, giving the Mounties a 62-0 lead. The first was a 24-yard pass to sophomore Kanyon St. Julien. After a 47-yard run for a score by Tribune, Jastrab's second TD toss was to sophomore receiver Mario Martinez.

L.A. Valley's only score came on one play, a 77-yard TD pass late in the third quarter.

Mt. SAC will host Saddleback College on Saturday (September 10). The game time is 6:00 pm.
