Two pairs advance to round of 16

The Orange Empire Conference Pairs Tournament started on Wednesday at Irvine Valley College and Saddleback had two duos advance to the round of 16.  The four athletes will have the day off on Thursday before the tournament resumes on Friday.

The team of Sydney Brown and Lilyann Horner were seeded No. 6 for the event and had to win one match to advance to the round of 16 on Friday.  The duo won in straight sets (21-19, 21-9) over the team of Ashlyn Riddle and Kiana Salamone from Cypress College.  Brown and Horner will face off against Riverside City College's Azriel White and Lanah Bergen on Friday.

Saddleback's combo of Logan Daniels and Abigail Brown also advanced to the next round with a straight set win over Riverside City College's tandem of Hoku Godoy and Kaylee Torress (21-11, 21-14).  The two were seeded No. 13 for the tournament and will face Santa Ana College's Matilda Teixeira and Kaiden Raif in the round of 16.

Saddleback had two other duos see their tournament run come to an end in the round of 32.  Sydney Pak and Olivia Gonzalez won a play-in round match against a team from Cypress College (23-21, 15-21, 15-10) before falling to a duo from Santa Ana in the round of 32 (8-21, 15-21).  The team of Haley Jones and Kaydance Robles were beaten in the round of 32 by a duo from Riverside City (19-21, 9-21). 

The team of Autry Satica and Sabrina Hernandez fell in the play-in round to a squad from Riverside City (16-21, 15-21). 

Round of 16 play is expected to start at 10:00 AM on Friday at Irvine Valley.
