Irvine Valley's baseball team got its 2023 season off to a great start on Friday afternoon at Long Beach City.

The Lasers scored nine runs in the first two innings and received strong performances on the mound from sophomore righthanders Sammy Murphy and Tommy Blomdahl in a 10-1 victory.

Irvine Valley got on the board right away in the first inning on a two-run double by sophomore first baseman Casey Kudell

The Lasers went up, 3-0, after an RBI groundout by sophomore catcher Connor Tallakson and made it 4-0 when Kudell later scored on a Viking error.

Irvine Valley boosted its lead to 9-0 in the top of the second inning with five runs.

Sophomore left fielder Drew Porter scored on an error, Kudell walked with the baseses loaded to bring in another run and then Tallakson had the big blow of the inning. He hit a three-run double to put Irvine Valley ahead, 9-0.

The Lasers went up, 10-0, in the top of the fourth inning when freshman third baseman Kevin James hit a home run.

Irvine Valley's pitchers did the rest.
