Baseball team picks up 10th win of season with road shutout

Irvine Valley's baseball team earned its 10 victory of the season and captured its eight game out of its last nine contests with a 16-0 win at Compton on Thursday.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 10-6 overall.

It was the first shutout of the season for IVC.

Freshman right-hander Dallas Carpenter pitched six scoreless inning to start. He gave up six hits and three walks and struck out seven.

Freshman righty Connor Neves was next on the mound for the Lasers and threw two innings. He allowed just one hit.

And freshman right-hander Skylar Manning closed out the game in the ninth inning. He gave up one hit and struck out one.

Irvine Valley scored a run in the top of the third inning to take the lead and then added two in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to take control.

The Lasers added a run in the top of the eighth inning to go ahead, 7-0. And Irvine Valley blew the game completely open in the top of the ninth with nine runs.

On the day, Irvine Valley finished with eight hits. But the Lasers walked 14 times and had two players hit by pitches.

Sophomore leftfielder Kyle Dobson paced the IVC offense, going 3 for 3 with a double, a triple, two walks, two runs scored and three RBI.

Sophomore catcher Collin Villegas was 2 for 5 with a home run, a walk, three runs and two RBI and sophomore shortstop Robert Haw went 1 for 4 with a triple, two runs one walk and two RBI for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley is off the rest of the week and plays host to Santa Ana to open Orange Empire Conference play next Tuesday at 2 p.m.
