Irvine Valley's women's beach volleyball team played in the rain on Tuesday at home against three four-year colleges an the Lasers held their own.
Irvine Valley couldn't keep up with Long Beach State in its opening match of the day. But Long Beach State is ranked No. 16 in NCAA Division 1.
Long Beach State came away with a 5-0 victory.
Irvine Valley did defeat Wayne State, 4-1, and nearly took down Utah before losing, 3-2.
In the match with Utah, three of the contests went to three sets.
Irvine Valley picked up wins from its No. 1 duo of sophomores Lea Kruse and Gabriela Griego, 21-14, 21-17, and the No. 5 team of sophomores Alma Entesari and Truth Hafey came out on top, 21-17, 13-21, 15-13,
IVC's No. 2 duo of sophomores Kendall Nolan and Alaina Thomas and No. 3 team of sophomores Anna Unke and Alaina Gendale came up just short in three-set contests.
Four of Irvine Valley's five matches against Wayne State also went to three sets. IVC earned wins from Kruse and Griego (15-7 in the third set), Austin and freshman Lexie Pereira (15-11 in the third set) and Entesari and Hafey (15-13 in the third set).
IVC's No. 3 duo of Unke and Gendale won in straight sets.
The Lasers are back in action on Friday at home, hosting Santa Ana and Cypress in Orange Empire Conference matches. Action begins at 9 a.m. on the IVC beach courts.
