After losing a tough nine inning game against Antelope Valley College on Thursday, the GCC Women's softball Team came back two days later to beat visiting Golden West College 7-5 Saturday Feb. 18 at the Glendale Sports Complex. The win was punctuated by a hitting attack that had the Lady Vaqs leading 6-1 in the second inning after a four run first inning and a solid pitching performance by starter and winning pitcher Sierra Ruvalcaba who faced 30 hitters on Saturday in seven innings after pitching all nine innings Thursday and facing 45 hitters.

"This was a hard fought, much needed win after a challenging stretch of eight consecutive road games," said head coach Sal Pizzo. "Jayleen Piedra deserved the game ball against Golden West. Her diving catch in the top of the seventh inning that she turned into a double play with the bases loaded and no outs was a game saver as well as a great sliding catch earlier in the game and was also a standout on offense.''

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Mya Chacon hit a leadoff homer for Glendale that helped pace the offense that took a 4-1 lead after the first inning and never trailed again. Lily Brito had two hits and scored two runs and Mishaila Montes had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Glendale is on the road this week playing WSC games Tuesday Feb. 21 at L.A. Mission and Thursday Feb. 23 at L.A. Valley with both games starting at 2:30 pm and a non-conference doubleheader at College of the Desert Saturday Feb. 25 at noon and 2:30 pm.
