Softball Drops Second-Consecutive One-Run Game

The Riverside City College softball team hit the road for an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) showdown on Wednesday afternoon and took on the Fullerton College Hornets. The game lacked offense as both teams combined for just eight hits, but a strong pitching performance was wasted as the Tigers were bested by the Hornets by the final score of 3-2.

It is the sixth one-run loss the Tigers have suffered this season and the second consecutive one-run defeat after falling to Long Beach, 4-3, in extras on Monday.

Fullerton struck first in the bottom of the second, but the Tigers responded with a two spot in the top of the third inning. Freshman shortstop Sophia Franco-Colis sent home the first run with a double to right field, scoring freshman center fielder Tessah Black. Sophomore catcher Alicia Rivera followed two batters later with an RBI single up the middle, plating freshman left fielder Alexis View, leading to a 2-1 advantage.

However, poor defense on the Tiger's part allowed Fullerton to score two runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, eventually leading to a 3-2 loss.

Riverside committed three errors which attributed to two unearned runs. Sophomore Carrah Van Houten (1-10) was tabbed with the loss after going the distance. She allowed a mere three hits, one earned run and fanned two batters.

Black was the lone hitter to barreled more than one hit as she went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
