Beach Volleyball: Roadrunners close non-conference play unbeaten after Fullerton win

FULLERTON – The Rio Hondo College women's beach volleyball team is off to its finest start in program history. On a dreary Tuesday morning, the Roadrunners remained perfect after picking up their eighth sweep of the season, a 5-0 victory at Fullerton College.

Results from Fullerton:
Faith Lee/Nadine Oronoz won 21-14, 21-3
Faith Wada/Jade Fuentes won 21-10, 21-7
Madison Mader/Denisse Sanchez won 21-6, 21-10
Jennifer Martinez/Jaida Zuniga won 21-9, 21–8
Daniela Sanchez/Maleia Petterez won 21-0, 21-0

Rio Hondo closed out its non-conference schedule with 9-0 record. Over the nine-match start to the season, the Roadrunners have won 44 of 45 doubles matches.

Head coach Teddi Esko is proud of the way her team has come together early in the season.

"It's been an excellent start to the 2023 season," Esko said. "Our returners are leading the way with such impressive play out of our newcomers. We are solid from top to bottom and eager to start off South Coast Conference play this Friday against El Camino College."

Rio Hondo has already greatly improved on a tough 2022 season. Last year, the Roadrunners compiled a 3-16 overall record and went 2-8 in South Coast Conference play.

The Roadrunners return to the court on Friday (March 17) when they will travel to El Camino College in Torrance for their conference opener at 10 a.m.
