Falcons squander 2-set lead, fall to CRC

What looked like a straight-set victory turned into a nightmare for the Falcons on Wednesday night when they squandered a two set lead, losing three straight sets to the visiting Cosumnes River Hawks, 25-17, 25-21, 18-25, 24-26, 11-15.  The Falcons were in control through the first two sets, but the Hawks started finding holes in the defense in the third set, particularly with their dinks to the middle of the floor.  The Hawks' middle and outside blockers also began having their way with FLC's hitters, rejecting numerous shots back to the floor.  The disastrous third set carried over to the fourth, and by then CRC had all the momentum.  In the final set, the Hawks were up 14-5 when Mikayla Ide served six straight Falcon points to make things interesting before the Hawks finally notched the game winner.  Freshman outside hitter Katy Kasparian was the Falcons' most consistent weapon at the net, while Taylar Schafer's versatility was displayed all over the court.

The Falcons hope to bounce back Friday night when they travel to Modesto for their third Big 8 Conference match at 6:30 pm.
