Comets best Lancers in game one of SoCal Regional

SAN MARCOS, CA (5/6/2022) -- In a rematch of last month's matchup between Palomar and Pasadena City, the Comets took game one of the CCCAA SoCal Regional in an 11-4 victory.

Jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the No. 5 seeded Comets, led by Dylan Delvecchio, held the Lancers until the sixth inning when they took a 3-2 lead. That was the only time the Lancers led the game. Palomar quickly got the three runs back in their half of the inning on a Caden Szuba single, a ground out to advance the runners and another single by Erik Larsen. It was all Palomar after that. Jack Sanders had a solo shot in the seventh and Tanner Lappin singled to score Bryson Hashimoto. Szuba then reached on a fielder's choice, but Quincy Scott got the run in to make the score 8-3 heading into the eighth inning. Lappin finished the day 4-4 with two RBI and a home run. Scott was 3-5 with three runs and an RBI.

Delvecchio pitched 5.2 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits and walked two. Blake Ignaciak was the winning pitcher and pitched 2.1 innings. He allowed one run on three hits to go along with four strikeouts. Austin Schroeder locked in the win for the Comets in the ninth where he struck out two Lancers.

Palomar gets the 1-0 advantage heading into day two of the best-of-three series. Game two is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday morning with an if necessary game three approximately 20 minutes following the first game.
