Baseball Report: Condors Slow to Start

Austin Maciel starts the season batting .636

The Condors have not started the way head coach Steve Hernandez envisioned in his second season at the helm of Oxnard College Baseball.  "We throw strikes, play solid defense, and can hit," said Hernandez.  So the after dropping an 8-5 decision to Citrus College, on the heels of a series loss to LA Valley, is an unpleasant surprise.

Despite terrrific individual starts by sophomores Austin Maciel (.636 batting average), Mark Hernandez (.462, 3 RBI's), and Raul Sandoval (.385), Oxnard is struggling to put together a complete game.

They gave up five runs in the second inning against LA Valley in the first game of the season. In the home-opener, OC was leading after the third, but was unable to hold, giving up 18 hits.  And despite scoring five runs and amassing 11 hits on Tuesday, dropped their third in a row to Citrus.

With the collection of talent on the Condor roster, the season will turn around in the near future.  Hopefully that happens on Thursday afternoon, when OC hosts Glendale College at 2:00.  The Condors will also be at home on Saturday at 1:00 when they host Santa Ana, in the Condors Nest.
