Owls' Battle Comes up Short Against Wildcats

Citrus College had to battle Friday night in the Owls' Nest but couldn't come away with the victory, dropping a five-set match to West LA (25-23, 20-25, 15-25, 34-32, 15-13).

The Owls slip to 5-11 on the year and 1-2 in Western State Conference-South action, while the Wildcats improve to 7-7 overall and 2-1 in conference.

Caren Stone led the Owl offense with 18 kills, followed by Kalin Greene with 14 kills and Sabrina Evangelista with 13 kills. Vanessa Marquez dished out 48 assists on the night.

Defensively, Citrus saw five Owls finish with double-digit digs, with Alexis Aguayo and Stone each posting 16 on the night. Mychaela Ortiz added 14 digs, while Marquez finished with 13 and Neesie Gonzalez had 12 in the match.

Citrus was a threat from the line, finishing with 20 aces as a team, including six from Ortiz, five from Jamie Murphy and four from Stone.

The Owls remain at home as No. 25-ranked Bakersfield College comes to the Owls' Nest on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match.
