Pirates prevail in five-set win at Cerro Coso

Freshman Victoria Dabney had a huge match, posting a season-high 21 kills to help lead the Porterville College women's volleyball team to a 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16, 15-12) victory at Cerro Coso College on Saturday.

The non-conference win snapped a two-match losing streak for PC and improved the Pirates to 5-7 overall.

Cerro Coso took set 1 and 3 but it was PC that was able to rally with wins over the final two to take the match.

Dabney was the go-to player at the net. She had 56 attempts on the night, making just seven errors on her way to 21 kills. She also led PC with 18 digs.

Sophomores Madison Doty (12 kills, 5 aces) and Emily Kissick (10 kills) also contributed on offense.

Jordan Casteneda had a match-best 40 assists to go with 12 digs and Andrea Frausto chipped in with 14 digs and two aces.

Porterville returns to Central Valley Conference action on Wednesday (Sept. 29) when the Pirates travel to Merced College for a 6 p.m. match.
