Bobcats maul the Roadrunners

The Saddleback softball team completed the week with a 9-0 win against College of the Desert on Friday at the Saddleback diamond.  The Bobcats scored eight runs in the opening inning in breezing past the Roadrunners.

Saddleback jumped on Desert early and never let the Roadrunners back up.  The Bobcats sent 12 batters to the plate in the opening inning, pounding out four hits while capitalizing on some defensive miscues by Desert.  Sarah Araujo, Mia Calderon and Ivy Vasquez had three straight hits after an opening walk and Saddleback scored a pair of runs before Desert ever recorded an out.  Later in the inning the Bobcats capitalized on a wild pitch, a passed ball on a third strike and an error on the first baseman in jumping out to a big lead.

Desiree McGruder started on the mound for Saddleback and pitched four innings before giving way to Vasquez in the fifth inning.  McGruder struck out six and walked none in improving to 2-3 on the season.

Saddleback is now 2-3 following the win on Friday.  The Bobcats will host Glendale College on Monday at 5:00 PM.
