Baseball Team Takes Two More From AVC

The MSJC baseball team improved to 5-0 on the season as they picked up another doubleheader sweep of Antelope Valley Saturday in Lancaster.

In game one the Eagles built a 6-0 lead on their way to a 7-3 win behind a strong pitching performance from Alex Banuelos.  Banuelos went 6 innings allowing just one run on 5 hits in the seven inning contest as he earned his second pitching victory of the season.  Aaron Harper had a big game at the plate as he went 4 for 4 with an RBI, while Patrick McDonald Jr. added a solo homerun.  The Eagles in all pounded out 11 hits in 7 innings with Jaden Jones adding two hits.  Robert Barrett pitched the 7th inning in releif.

In the second game of the day MSJC jumped out to a 3 run lead in the top of the first on their way to an 18-8 win in 8 innings.  Harper had 3 hits this time around while Simon Rangel knocked in 5 runs.  Rangel had a pair of doubles in the game as he went 3 for 5 and had a walk.  Russell Mitchell had a double and 3 RBIs in the win while both McDonald Jr. and Ryan Grinnals each drove in 2 runs a piece.  Aiden Bruce had 2 hits and an RBI while Julian Gonzalez also collected a pair hits.  McDonald Jr. earned the pitching victory for MSJC as he went 5 innings on the day allowing just one earned run while striking out 5.  Jacob Covington pitched the 6th inning for the Eagles and Max Rangel threw the final two innings to finish out the victory.

The 5-0 Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Ridgecrest to take on Cerro Coso.  First pitch is scheduled for 2 pm on Thursday.
