After grabbing a win at home on Thursday, the tables were turned as Citrus College fell 17-11 to Ventura College on the road Saturday.

The Owls slip to 1-3 on the year, while the Pirates improve to 2-4 overall.

Citrus took a quick lead, plating three runs in the top of the first after putting runners in scoring position at third and second with one out. Chad Green knocked in one run with a base hit, before Diego Gonzalez followed with an RBI single of his own. Nicholas Santiago capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly, allowing Green to tag up at third to put the Owls up 3-0.

The Pirates responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, but Citrus struck again in the second. With runners on the corner and one out, Devon Diaz drew the throw down to second as he tried to steal a base, allowing Jason Armendariz to steal home, 4-1.

Ventura picked up some momentum and took the lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Despite finding themselves trailing, the Owls never backed down and scored three runs in the top of the eighth to pull within four but couldn't hold off the Pirates in the 17-11 loss.

Santiago and Roman Robles led the Owls offensively with two hits apiece. Santiago went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Robles finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Citrus is back on the road on Tuesday, taking on San Bernardino Valley College at 2 p.m.
