Guzman’s Walk-Off Home Run Lifts No.11 Vikings Over No. 1 Delta

The No.11 Long Beach City Vikings baseball team upset the No.1 San Joaquin Delta Mustangs 2-1 in the first game of the Southern California Challenge Tournament with a walk-off home run from freshman left fielder Moises Guzman. With the win, the Vikings remained undefeated with a 3-0 record.

Freshman Mitchell Knight (1-0) earned his first win on the mound with only allowing the Mustangs to one hit, while striking out two.

The Vikings were scoreless with the Mustangs through the first six innings. Then in the bottom of the seventh, the Vikings brought the action with freshman Matthew Pinal getting a base hit and then was brought in by a double to center field from sophomore center fielder Carter White to lead 1-0.

The Mustangs answered back in the top of the eigth with an RBI single to tie the game 1-1. Then in the bottom of the ninth, with one out, Guzman homered to left field for the walk-off home run.

The Vikings will play again in game two of the Southern California Challenge against Pierce College tomorrow at home at 2 p.m.
