Beach volleyball team sweeps its fifth straight OEC match

The Irvine Valley women's beach volleyball team might have started the season slow, but it sure finished strong.

The Lasers moved their record to 12-11 overall and 9-1 in the Orange Empire Conference with a 5-0 win over Santa Ana on Friday morning at home. The match was played at IVC, but Santa Ana was the host school.

IVC finished the regular season with a record of 12-4 against community college teams with their only losses coming against four of the top teams in Southern California. The Lasers fell to both Orange Coast and Ventura, 3-2, Santa Barbara City, 5-0, and Mt. San Antonio, 4-1.

Irvine Valley had already wrapped up the OEC Eastern Division, but closed out the title on Friday with the win. Orange Coast won the Western Division in the conference.

Irvine Valley swept each match in straight sets on Friday vs. Santa Ana.

The sophomore IVC pair of Nolan Barret and Chloe Swanson won, 21-14, 21-16, on the first court.

Freshman Sydney Dews and sophomore Gabi Brown earned a 21-11, 21-15, victory at the No. 2 position.

And on the third court, sophomore Angie Griego and freshman Tessa Marocco won, 21-4, 21-16.
