Cougars Spoil Sophomore Night for Owls

In its final home match of the season, Citrus College battled but dropped a three-set loss to College of the Canyons (25-18, 27-25, 25-13).

Prior to the start of the match, the Owls honored the sophomores from both sides, including Delaney Tate and Evelyn Enriquez for Citrus.

The Owls drop to 8-12 overall, 3-6 in the Western State Conference-South. The Cougars improve to 11-10 on the year and 9-2 in conference.

Tate posted eight kills and eight digs on the night, followed by six kills from Brianna Lopez. Maritza Sanchez had 20 assists and Aniya Smith finished with 10 digs.

Citrus opened the match with the first three points of the night off an ace from Smith and two Cougar errors. It sparked back-and-forth action as both sides held leads in the set.

The Owls created some separation, 14-10, as Kalin Greene and Tate had consecutive kills before another Smith ace.

Canyons called a timeout and battled back to take an 18-15 lead and force a Citrus timeout. The Owls kept battling but couldn't overcome the Cougars, dropping the set 25-18.

Citrus faced some more adversity in the second set but clawed its way back to take an 11-6 lead. Faith Evaro, Lopez and Greene all had kills in a 3-0 run for the Owls. The Cougars battled back and took the second set 27-25.

Canyons carried the momentum into the third and jumped out to an early lead. The Cougars didn't let up and took the set 25-13 to win the match.

The Owls close out the conference season at West LA on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
