SHUT-OUT WIN ON OPENING DAY

The Hornets kicked open the door of the 2022 season with a 12-0 road win at Cerritos College on Thursday. 

Starting pitcher Adam Armstrong (1-0) earned the win cruising 5 innings allowing only 2 hits. He had 3 strikeouts and issued 2 walked. Joel Martinez went 3 innings giving up only one hit with 2 strikeouts. Joe Linehan finished it off putting in an inning of work with no walks and a strikeout. 

Offensively, Garet Crenshaw got it started for FC in the 3rd inning blasting a solo jack to dead center. The Hornets ran off 4 runs in the 4th on hits by Kaipo Houle (double scoring David Barrios and Isaiah Marquez), RJ Vanderhook (single up the middle scoring Haole), and Jacob Sharp (singled left side scoring Crenshaw). 

In the 5th, Marco Malerba hit a shot that got through the right side plating Marquez. 

With a 6-0 lead, the Hornets blew the game open in the 7th inning scoring 4 more runs. Miguel Ortiz knocked a triple that brought Sharp home, and Marquez matched Ortiz with a triple of his own bringing Miguel home. Niko Santamaria grounded out to second allowing Marquez to come home and Marco Malerba finished off the inning with a home run over the center field fence. 

In the 8th, Miguel Oritz hit the third homer of the day- a 2 run shot over left field.  

The Hornets were solid on both sides of the ball holding the Falcons to 3 total hits with no errors, while FC tallied 19 on the day. 

Up Next: The Hornets (1-0 overall) will get back at it against Cerritos College again at home on Saturday, January 29th at 12:00 pm.
