Gomez Strikes Out 10 in 7-2 Win Over IVC

Starting pitcher Santiago Gomez struck out a season-high 10 batters in seven innings of work to earn his sixth win (6-1) of the year, which is the second most in the state.
Andre Petties-Wilson got the Knights' offense started with a leadoff triple in the bottom of the 1st and then came home on a passed ball to put the Knights ahead, 1-0. Gabe Jones followed with a double to center field and scored later on in the inning on a Julian Nunez sacrifice fly to put City up, 2-0.
With two on in the bottom of the 3rd, Nunez got his second RBI of the day with a double to left field that scored Connor Stewart. Drew Lazor came up next and reached on an error, but got an RBI with Justin Kerby scoring from third base on the ground ball to give the Knights a 4-0 lead.
Nunez came up big once again in the bottom of the 5th with his third RBI, this time on a single that scored Jones. Two batters later, Joshua Loving hit a 2-RBI single to left field that scored Nunez and Stewart to put the Knights on top, 7-0.
Imperial Valley got two runs off Gomez in the top of the 6th on a 2-RBI single from Jacob Sapp, but that was all the Arabs could get as Gomez struck out the last two batters to end the inning.
Austin Correia pitched the final two innings in relief and allowed only one hit with two strikeouts.
City will be home again at Morley Field on Tuesday, March 29 against Mesa at 2 p.m. to begin a 3-game series.
