Vaqueros Start WSC Play Strong with Wins over Ventura, Glendale

VENTURA – In its WSC openers Friday at Ventura Harbor, the SBCC beach volleyball team enjoyed another undefeated day to make it four straight wins, defeating Ventura 3-2 and Glendale 5-0.

 

The Vaqueros improved to a 5-1 record for the year.

 

"I am very grateful to have Jenny Sims as our volunteer assistant who was able to lead our team on Friday," said head coach Ariana Garner, who was unable to attend due to COVID-19.

 

"I have the utmost confidence in Jenny and it was great to hear were able to get it done and take care of business. I am proud of our ladies for not letting outside matters distract them. I also want to thank our Athletic Director Jerry Hannula for stepping in and accompanying our team and Jenny when I was unable to be there."

"Irey Sandholt and Karoline Ruiz had really strong serve receive as well as overall ball control and energy. They did a great job talking and placing the ball in the holes. Karo had five kills, five aces and one block. Irey had two aces and 11 kills."

 

"Emma and Kelissa battled through a really tough matchup against a scrappy Ventura team. They served tough and were able to pull out their shots to put the ball away with the game on the line."

"Karo had six kills, five aces, and one block against Glendale, while Irey had four kills and three aces. They serve received really well throughout the match. Glendale was really scrappy, but Irey and Karo played great defense. They were able to consistently pass in front and keep their ball control throughout each play."

 

While there was exactly a month separating their last two match days, the Vaqueros will be in action each of the next four Fridays for all of their remaining WSC games. They will be back in action against Moorpark and Santa Monica starting at noon on Friday, April 1.
