Pierce Hands Cougars First WSC setback

Cuesta Baseball entered today's game riding an eight-game winning streak and boasting an undefeated record against the Western State Conference, but fell to Pierce, 9-8.  The Brahmas, as they did in Tuesday's loss to Cuesta, 4-1, drew first blood with a run in the 1st inning, but then, unlike Tuesday, kept scoring.  Pierce held an 8-0 lead in the 8th inning, but, just like Tuesday's game, the Cougars feasted on the Brahmas' bullpen.  Cuesta posted four runs in both the 8th and 9th innings, powered by Third Baseman Harrison Hart's three-run Home Run in the 8th and two-RBI Double in the 9th.  Pierce scored the eventual game-winner on a two-out single in the top of the 9th, while the Cougars' stranded the tying run at 2nd in their final at bat.  Hart ended the game going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and five RBI, while Rightfielder Kirk Woolf added a single and a double, as well as two runs scored and another driven in.

The Cougars and Brahmas complete this week's series at Oxnard College this Saturday (1 PM), because Pierce does not have use of its field.
