COD (3-1; 1-0) began South Coast Conference play with a team that shares the same mascot, winning 2 out of 3 doubles matches, then rolling in singles play, as Desert defeated Rio Hondo (3-4; 0-1), 6-3.

In doubles play, the team of freshman Shekinah Daffon (Palm Springs H.S.) and freshman Hannah Johnson (Palm Springs H.S.) won easily in their match, 8-1. The team of freshman Agustina Berrondo (Tucumán (ARG) Institute Hermanas Esclavas) and freshman Kiara Bragg (Rancho Mirage H.S.) won in a close one, 8-5 and the team of sophomore Sariah Sanchez (Indio Shadow Hills) and sophomore Emily Gallegos (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) fell, 8-1.

In singles play, Daffon and Berrondo won effortlessly in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 and Johnson had to retire due to injury, down 2-1 in her match-up. Bragg fought hard in her match, but fell, 7-5, 6-3. Sanchez won easily 6-1 and 6-2 and sophomore Angie Millan (La Quinta H.S.) won in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-4.

The next match for College of the Desert Women's Tennis will be at home in Palm Desert on February 20th at 2p, where they will continue South Coast Conference play against the Cerritos Falcons of Norwalk. 

College of the Desert defeated Rio Hondo, 6-3 in non-Conference play at College of the Desert in Palm Desert.
