It was a day of celebration in multiple ways for the GCC Women's Basketball Team Friday Feb. 18 against Citrus College as the Lady Vaqs defeated the visiting Owls 71-45 to win its third straight Western State Conference Southern Division Title and help earn Head Coach Joel Weiss his 100th career victory at Glendale in just five years. Preceding the game, sophomores Vicky Oganyan, Emily Sisson and Polina Kovaleva were honored before their final regular season game in the Verdugo Gym.

GCC raced out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they led 42-21 at halftime and substituted liberally as 10 players scored for the Lady Vaqs, led by freshman Kayla Wrobel who had 17 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs. Megan Delgado added 14 points off the bench and hit four 3-pointers as Glendale hit on 13 of 31 from beyond the arc for 41.9 percent for the game. They shot 75 percent from the field in the first quarter to lead 30-9 after the first 10 minutes.

Now 19-5 overall and 10-2 in the WSC South and ranked in the CCCWBCA Poll of Feb. 15, Glendale will have a week to potentially play two games postponed by COVID against Ventura College Dec. 22 and El Camino on Dec. 30. The pairings for the Southern California Regional Playoffs will be released on the weekend of Feb. 26-27 and basked on their ranking and conference championship, the Lady Vaqs stand a strong chance of hosting a home playoff game the following week.
