Dons Knock Off SWC 3-1 to Start the Year

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The Santa Ana College Volleyball team got off to a good start as the Dons knocked off the Southwestern Jaguars 3-1 (25-11, 25-20 , 25-27, 25-21) on the road in their season opener.

SAC was led by their new transfer, Matilde Teixeira, who posted 18 kills in her first match with the Dons. The sophomore from Portugal added 20 digs, three assists and a couple aces.

Fellow sophomore transfer Alison Caswell followed right behind her with 17 kills while Kassandra Zavala put up a nice performance to start her second season at SAC with 11 kills and six blocks. 

Sophomore setter Kaiden Raif looked sharp as she ran the offense and recorded 36 assists to go with 10 digs. Defensively, freshman libero Jaleen Lujan showed out for the Dons with a team high 22 digs. 

Santa Ana will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Rio Hondo for another non-conference matchup at 5:00 p.m. The Roadrunners are 0-2 after falling to Orange Coast and Santa Monica in a quad on their opening day.
