SOFTBALL: VALENTINE’S DAY MERCY

The Lady Hornets did not give any flowers to visiting San Diego Mesa on Valentine's Day, instead they handed the Olympians a 9-1 mercy.

Fullerton College President Dr. Greg Schulz tossed out the first pitch setting the tone for a great day on the ball field for the Hornets.

FC got the bats going early in the first inning when Khloe Lilavois crushed her first home run of the season over the left field wall scoring Madison Ferguson and herself. Celeste Borza and Miranda Rooney both hit singles to left field setting up the next round RBI. Sarah Rengifo hammered a line drive to right plating Borza, and Clarissa Hernandez doubled to center scoring Rengifo and Rooney.  Fullerton went up 6-0 on Natalie Gonzalez's ground out second allowing Haylee Enriquez the chance to score from third base.

Mesa got a run back in the top of the 3rd when Kassandra Solis-Corrales laid down a bunt and used her speed to take advantage of a Fullerton throwing error to come all the way home.

The Hornets added three more runs in their next at bat. Ferguson dinked a double to center field scoring Enriquez, and Danielle Ramirez ripped a doubled to left center that brought Ferguson and Hernandez home.

Freshman pitcher Hanna Pionke got the starting nod in the circle and looked very good to earn the win. She threw 2 innings with 1 hit against, had 1 strikeout, and no walks. Sophomore Jessica Lopez came in tossing 2 innings, with 5 K's, no walks, and 1 hit against! Nicole Gonzalez finished off the 5-inning game with 2 hits against, no walks, and 1 strikeout.

Up Next: Fullerton (3-3 overall, 1-0 conference) will host another non-conference game on Tuesday, February 18th when Antelope Valley comes into town. The first pitch goes out at 2:30 pm.
