Falcons lose twice to Sac City as injury woes continue

Held together by bailing wire and duct tape, the Folsom Lake softball team dropped two games at Sacramento City on Saturday by scores of 12-1 and 23-4.  The Falcon pitching staff has been decimated by injuries and finding suitable replacements has been problematic.  Saturday's losses underscored the severity of the situation as the Falcons were forced to use outfielders as pitchers, and the result was not pretty.

Game one started innocently enought, but a disasterous third inning  - including two Panther home runs - led to six runs and a 10-0 lead.  The Falcons rallied for a single run in the fifth, but that was all before the game ended after five innings.

Game two again began as a close contest with Sac City leading just 3-1 until the bottom half of the third.  The Panthers then took advantage of an error, two walks, a hit, another walk, and another error before unloading a three-run homer.  Nine runs scored before the dust had settled, but to add insult to injury, they added 11 more in the fourth inning.  The Falcons managed just six hits in the game, including a two-run double by Haylee Reginato.

The Falcons (15-12 overall, 7-7 in Big 8) will play a non-conference game at Bakersfield on Tuesday, then play a doubleheader at Delta (16-11, 7-6 in Big 8) on Saturday.
