SOFTBALL: PITCHER'S DUEL

The 2020 Hornets officially took the field for the first time today for a non-conference home game against Southwestern College, and lost in extra innings to the Jaguars 1-0.

It was a pitcher's duel from start to finish with Fullerton falling in the 8th inning to a tough Southwestern team.

The game went into the eighth inning with both teams tied 0-0. The Jags took advantage of the International Tie-Breaker rule (runner on second) to start the inning and scored the winning run on a Hornet error.

Fullerton did their best to get back the run, but they stranded Emily Muro nn third base to end the game.

FC pitcher Jessica Lopez may have taken the loss, however her performance was incredible going 8 innings with no earned runs, 1, walk, 5 hits against, and 8 strikeouts. SWC'S winning pitcher Jackie Kamery also went 8 innings with no earned runs, 1 walk, 3 hits against, and 2 strikeouts.

The Hornet hit of the day was Sara Rengifo's deep shot to the left field corner for a triple. 

Up Next: Fullerton (0-1 overall) will play at home agains this Friday, January 31st when the welcome top-tier Mt. San Antonio College. Game time is at 2:00 pm.
