Women’s Basketball Begins Postseason against Glendale

The road to the CCCAA State Championships begins Friday as No. 8 El Camino College hosts No. 9 Glendale at the ECC North Gym.

THREE TIMES

El Camino College drew the No. 8 seed in Southern California after going 23-6 in the regular season and 9-1 in South Coast Conference, South Division play. It is the program's third straight SCC South crown and fourth conference title in the last five seasons. Overall, the Warriors have now won six South Coast Conference titles.

ALL CONFERENCE

The Warriors had six players named to the All-South Coast Conference, South Division Team this week including Ashley Nguyen, who earned Freshman of the Year honors. Salihah Bey, Makenna Peneueta and Jordan Hixon all got First-Team honors while Brenna Wilson and Erika Carson got Second-Team nods.

THE OPPONENT

The Warriors take on No. 9 seed Glendale College. The Vaqueros won the Western State Conference, East Division title after going 21-5 on the year and 9-1 in conference play. They won 10 straight games to clinch the conference title before dropping the season finale at L.A. Valley.

LAST MEETING

The Warriors outscored the Vaqueros 42-34 in the second half to overcome a four-point halftime deficit and score a big road victory, 62-58, on Dec. 30. Salihah Bey led ECC with 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting. She was the only Warriors player to tally double figures but the Warriors held Glendale to just 2-for-13 shooting from beyond the arc.

THE BRACKET

The winner of the Warriors-Vaqueros matchup is slated to face the winner between No. 1 Moorpark and No. 16 Cerritos, the SCC-South Co-Champions; a game slated to take place on Saturday night.
