Women's soccer team starts strong, but falls at Santa Ana

The Irvine Valley women's soccer team battled once again.

The Lasers scored early on a goal by sophomore Julia Butz, but Santa Ana scored three goals in a row and IVC fell in its Orange Empire Conference opener on the road.

Santa Ana earned a 3-1 conference win.

Butz found the net in the seventh minute off an assist by freshman forward Perla Miranda. It was Miranda's team-leading 13th point of the season.

Freshman keeper Andrea Torres had four saves for the the Lasers.

Irvine Valley's record fell to 2-5-1 overall and Santa Ana improved to 1-3-2 overall.

Diana Hernandez scored two goals in the second half to help Santa Ana to the victory.

The Lasers are back in action on Friday with a home conference match against Orange Coast at 3 p.m.
