Hawks Complete a Tough Weekend

The Cosumnes River Hawks softball team had tough weekend against Sacramento City at the CRC Softball Field, dropping three games 6-3, 4-3, and 10-5.

Game 1 - Sacramento City 6 CRC 3

The Hawks started the game down 2-0, but scored in the first inning on a double by Danielle Pfenning scoring Leandra Coronado. Sacramento City bounced back with two runs in the 3rd and scores by Emily Mort and Kiki Lathipanya were not enough to overcome the Panthers' lead. Pfenning and Malia Villegas led the Hawks with two hits apiece.

Game 2 - Sacramento City 4 CRC 3

In a close match-up, the Hawks could not complete a comeback over the Panthers. Sacramento City jumped out early with two runs in the second and added two in the seventh for a 4-1 lead. However, the Hawks came storming back with two runs in the seventh.  With bases loaded and one out, the Hawks were taken out of the inning by a game-ending double play. Offensively the Hawks were led by Leandra Coronado, who went 2-4, and Emilee Mort, who was 2-3 with one double.

Game 3 - Sacramento City 10 CRC 5

Despite nine hits and a three-run 6th, the Hawks dropped the series finale. The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and never let up scoring ten runs on 12 hits. Pfenning led the way for CRC going 3-4 with an RBI. Ashlee Toy and Coronado also had two hits for CRC.

"We had a tough weekend. It just seemed like we hit a lot of hard balls right at the other team today, and their mis-hits found holes. We made a great push in the 7th in the first game Saturday. Ashlee gave us a solid outing on the mound, but we had some mental lapses that cost us some key opportunities to win the game." summarized Coach Schroeder.
