Leading two sets to one on Thursday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team was just one set away from posting their first win against El Camino College since 2006. Over the last 15 years, the Warriors (5-10, 3-2) have won 26 straight matches against the Falcons (8-4, 4-2), with Cerritos taking just four sets over that period of time. It looked like that streak would come to an end after the first three sets, where they led, 19-25, 25-16, 25-22. The energy started to slip away in the fourth set with El Camino earning a 25-21 decision and then breezed to a 15-5 score to come away with the five-set win.

Cerritos trailed as much as 21-15 in the fourth set, but started to put themselves in position to pull out the win. The Falcons hovered around trailing by three points, but the Warriors eventually pulled out the set after an attack error sent the match to a fifth and deciding set. The team had no answer for the rejuvenated Warriors, who hit .450 in the fifth set.

Freshman Aiyana Sierra (La Mirada HS) led the Falcons with 20 kills, while Jayda Harris-Amete (La Mirada HS) contributed 15 kills and a match-high 22 digs. Freshman Marissa Mendibles (Downey HS) turned in a season-high 10 kills and added seven digs, while freshman Maleah Gonzales (Schurr HS) added seven kills and a pair of service aces. Freshman setter Carissa Mendibles (Downey HS) was terrific on the night as she dished out 46 assists and added eight digs, with freshman Ava Villaflores (La Mirada HS) coming off the bench to chip in with six digs.
