Despite the cold weather and occasional rain during the first game, the hot bats and consistent offense for the GCC Baseball Team was more than enough to overcome the elements and visiting Oxnard College 10-6 and 14-1 in a doubleheader Feb. 22 at Stengel Field to improve to 9-4 this season.

Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning in the first game, the Vaqs erupted for seven runs in that stanza punctuated by back-to-back solo home runs by Adrian Gonzales, his second of the game, and Gabe Juarez to start the hit parade in that inning that also included a home run by Jackson Benattar, an RBI triple from Joey Craig, an RBI double from Nick Sutherin and an RBI single by Andrew Cisneros in the seven inning game. GCC pounded out 17 hits in the second game with Craig's three-run homer in the second inning being decisive as well as a second solo homer by Juarez on the day and three hits each by Craig and Benattar. Gonzalez had six hits and four RBI on the day.

Geo Hernandez got the start in the first game and pitched five innings and Chris Lozano and Tobia Plotkin each pitched one inning in relief with Lozano getting the win. Plotkin started the second game and got the win in his two innings of work with Joseph Perez, Owen Wendell-Braly and Maximo Newhart following him on the mound.

Glendale has four games on the schedule next week with a road game Tuesday Feb. 28 at Santa Ana College at 2 pm and then three home games, Wednesday March 1 at 3 pm against Saddleback College, Thursday March 2 against Santa Ana and Saturday March 4 at noon against Orange Coast College with all home games at Stengel Field.
