Baseball Downed by Cypress on Day Two of AHC Spring Tournament

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College baseball team fell short in a crushing 13-3 defeat against Cypress College after day two of the AHC Spring Tournament on Wednesday. | BOX SCORE

Cypress (18-15) struck first with one run in the opening inning, but Parker Haskell evened the odds in the next frame after making his way home on a wild pitch. Neither team scored in the third but the Chargers caught fire in the fourth and combined for nine runs through the next three frames before Jacob Steels managed to drive in one with a single through the right side in the seventh. Both squads scored in the eighth frame after the Chargers tacked on two and Vander Hodges plated one with a shot through the right side. Cypress closed out the scoring for both sides by squeaking out one more tally in the ninth.

Hodges led the Bulldogs (16-17) at the plate after a 3-for-4 showing that included one double, one RBI, and one run. Steels also finished the game with multiple after a 2-for-4 performance, while Luke Wenzel and Michael Tackett each added one.

Nate Wenzel suffered the loss on the bump after entering in the top of the third. He struck out two batters but allowed nine earned runs on as many hits after four innings of work. Lucas Earle earned the start but did not factor into the final decision. Ricardo Rodriguez and Bradley Waite also recorded non-decision performances after brief stints on the bump.

The Bulldogs are set to return to action on Thursday, April 14th, for the final day of tournament action. They will face Cerritos College at 2:30 PM on John Osborne Field.
