CHABOT SOFTBALL SHOWS IMPROVEMENT IN DEFEAT

The Chabot College softball team took some positives from a loss to powerful San Jose City on Wednesday.
San Jose (3-0) scored four in the first inning in a 12-3 victory, but the Gladiators hammered out eight hits, including two hits apiece from Marissa Dorr, Karalyn McGovern and Briana Arguello.
"San Jose was a strong hitting team and did their job," Chabot coach Megan Kravets said. "We were not as aggressive at the plate, but had a big improvement from the first game."
The Gladiators (0-2) broke through the second inning. Juliana Ottria got the team's first hit, Karalyn McGovern singled, and Brianna Arguello had an RBI single.
In the third, Barbara Lindsey singled and stole two bases before Marissa Dorr's RBI single up the middle. In the fourth, McGovern singled and scored on an Arguello hit, with both players getting their second hits of the game.
A defensive highlight came in the second when shortstop Aliya Librin caught a fly ball and doubled off the runner.
