COD Women’s Soccer wins 5th in a row, shoots down the Eagles, 2-0

COD (7-3; 3-0) won their fifth straight game and grabbed a clean sheet, as the Roadrunners placed a goal in each half, winning at the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles (3-6-2; 1-2), 2-0.

The Roadrunners collected only the second win in program history on the road versus Mt. San Jacinto and were bolstered by another spectacular performance by the Desert "Ministry of Defense." They stifled the Eagles offense and gave freshman goal keeper Jessica Uribe (Indio Shadow Hills) her fourth shutout of the season.

Both teams faced off against one another for the first time on the turf football field on the San Jacinto campus. Women's Soccer games have been moved to that location due to construction at the location where most Eagles contests take place, Menifee.

Desert got on the scoreboard in the 36th minute when freshman forward Citlalli Ponce (Indio Shadow Hills) scored her fourth goal of the season on a deflection off of the Eagles keeper, giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead. A lead which would hold through halftime.

Early in the second half, in the 48th minute, Desert struck again, this time team goal leader, sophomore forward Jasmine Castillo (Indio Shadow Hills) scored her ninth on an assist from Ponce to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 advantage.

The Roadrunners played the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles for the first time in program history in 1997 and are now 7-26-6 all-time against Mt. San Jacinto. Desert has a 2-12-5 record against the Eagles in San Jacinto/Menifee.
