COD Football celebrates 59th Homecoming Game by pushing past the Tartars, 35-12

COD (6-1; 2-0) moved onto their best start in 15 years, an impressive Homecoming Game performance on all sides of the ball, including a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown, as the Roadrunners rolled over the Compton Tartars (3-3; 0-1), 35-12.

An amazing game for the Desert offensive line as they did not surrender a sack for the third time this season, allowing sophomore quarterback Cesar Vela (Rancho Mirage H.S.) to pass for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns and sophomore running back Arieon Capler (Palm Springs H.S.) to take 15 carries for 88 yards and 2 scores. Freshman linebacker Maurice Davis (Eastpointe (MI) H.S.) had an impressive blocked punt, which he promptly plucked out of the air and darted 27 yards for a score and freshman defensive back Rae'Jon Lavender (Detroit (MI) Early College of Excellence) led the way with 10 total tackles, 4 solo, 2 sacks, totaling a loss of 18 yards, a broken up pass and an interception at the goal line.

The Roadrunners competed against the Compton Tartars for the first time in program history in 2014 and have a 4-0 overall record against the Tartars. Desert has a 2-0 record at home in this series. The next contest for Desert is on Saturday, October 29th at 1:00p against the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles at Carl Quandt Stadium in San Jacinto for the 55th Palms-To-Pines Trophy Game. The Roadrunners first played Mt. San Jacinto in 1967 and have a 24-29-1 overall record against them. The next home game for Desert is Sophomore Day, Saturday, November 5th at 1:00p against the Grossmont Griffins of El Cajon. This game will be played in appreciation of our country's military members. The Roadrunners first competed against Grossmont in 1965 and hold a 7-17-3 overall record against them. Desert holds a 4-7-1 record against the Griffins in the Coachella Valley. The most recent time the Roadrunners defeated Grossmont was in 2008, when the game was in Palm Desert and COD won, 47-40.
