Pirates rally to tame Owls, 11-7

GLENDORA -- The Orange Coast College softball team took care of business late and topped Citrus College, 11-7, on Monday afternoon in a nonconference matchup.

Sarah Rosales went 4-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI to lead the Pirates (9-7), while Amaya White added three hits, two runs and an RBI. Other multi-hit games were turned in by Hailey Pichardo (2-for-3, two runs, two RBI), Gianna Gozo (2-for-4, one RBI) and Nadia Perez (2-for-4, two runs, one RBI).

OCC trailed 5-3 through four innings before scoring eight runs over the final three frames to stun the host Owls (6-13).

Perez and Rosales each came through in the top of the fourth with a pair of two-out hits to put OCC in front, 3-2. Perez lined a run-scoring double to right-center and two batters later, Rosales drove home two with a double to left-center.

Citrus regained the lead, 5-3 on a three-run home run off the bat of Mia Godoy in the bottom of the fourth, but RBI-hits by Pichardo and Gozo highlighted a three-run fifth inning.

In the sixth, Emilie Lapena drove in a run with an RBI-single up the middle, followed by an RBI-double by White and a sacrifice fly by Pichardo that scored two runs thanks to a Citrus error.

Rosales capped off the scoring with a two-out, RBI-single in the top of the seventh, capping off her fantastic afternoon at the plate.

Ashlee Kean pitched 5 1/3 innings and overcame an inconsistent strike zone to pick up the win, allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts.

Coast returns home on Wednesday to take on Santa Ana, beginning at 3 p.m.
