Long Beach drops narrow 1-0 game to Saddleback

By Henry Severson

Long Beach, CA -- On a beautiful afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium, The Long Beach City College Vikings collided with the Bobcats from Saddleback.  With family, friends and spectators in the stands, and after an extremely physical affair, Long Beach fell to Saddleback 1-0.

The Vikings were not led by one individual player in this game.  Rather, the entire team was needed to stay in the game against their toughest opponent to date, with Coach Nunes positing, "You can't be competitive with a team like that with just one player."  The Vikings were on the attack consistently throughout the game, garnering four shots on goal.

The lone goal occurred on a set piece in the 30th minute of the first half. "Their only chance, they scored," observed Nunes.  In a game like soccer, one opportunity can change the outcome of the game.

The Vikings look to rebound at Goldenwest next Tuesday, September 14 at 3:00 PM.
